Okay guys, I need some advice...

To cut my story down to a semi-reasonable length, I am on my 2nd 17" PowerBook 1.5GHz. Apple replaced the first one after 4 repairs. I got the brand the new 17" replacement in early September. It's just back from repair #2. This time around, it was working fine and then it just died. I couldn't turn it on. So after going through the troubleshooting steps with the tech at Apple, I sent it in for a repair. The moment I got it back, as I opened the display for the first time, the screw in the bottom right corner of the display fell out and lodged itself between the display and the base of the computer. Needless to say, it got really dicey because I couldn't close the display without the screw obstructing it closing. I was in fear of breaking the display or breaking the hinge. I finally got the screw out while on the phone with the Apple tech, not after it had completely gouged the case and twisted the hinge a little bit so it wouldn't close properly. So I get it back from repair #2 and the right side of the display is almost flush with the base while there is a gap on the left side. I have all but excepted this as normal from reading the other posts on this forum, however, my airport reception is worse than ever. I used to get great wireless reception with this thing! It's embarrassing to say that I now get better reception on my Titanium 867. Airport signal strength seems to fluctuate with the angle of the display too. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! What should I do? I am so frustrated!

Keep sending it back, especially if you have applecare or are still under the 1-year warranty. If you are close to an apple store, take it and your ti book and show them the difference in airport reception betweeen the two. Good luck and don't give up until you are satisfied. Remember you paid alot for this machine so you should be happy with it!

Well it died again the other day in the middle of my work day, so I had to improvise. I just received the box this evening, and it will be taken away to Apple Repair tomorrow. This sucks.

If you do not get satisfaction, you can send a complaint directly to Steve Jobs. I have his email address around here somewhere...

My 19 month-old PB17 is a rare lemon, it's been back 3 times to Applecare for odd warranty work (defective modem then screen, and then a faulty daughterboard). I now have 5 dead pixels on my replacement screen, will wait awhile longer before sending it in for repair number 4.

During this same time period, the other 10+ laptops we have, including PB12", iBooks, etc., were all fine except for the hinge problem on our titaniums.

Sometimes, one gets the exception rather than the rule...
