well the apple is not a stand alone illuminated object back there, it just a cut out of the plastic/aluminum shell that lets the glow from the backlight out the back instead of forwards, so the only way to change its color is to put something between the backlight of the lcd and the case.

Hey, no need to get cocky -- that IS the procedure.

That said, you should know that there is no non-destructive method of opening an aluminum PowerBook's screen case, so you really can't do this on that model (it has been successfully done on iBooks and older PowerBooks).

I opened a G4 pbk screen to replace a broken hinge, and it'll never be the same. These stinkers are glued together with some serious stuff, and the front face of the screen is very thin and flexible. Don't even think of fooling yourself into believing you can get it off and not have it look like crap when you put it back together.

You'll want to find a different mod than that.

If you have careful hands I suppose a razor sharp stencil point knife found in any art store can trim over some translucent paper/tape stuck onto the outside logo. KABAM! Tasty green apple.
