I have (what seems to be) a bad PCMIA port on a Titanium PB. I was wondering what diagnostics I could use to be sure the port is bad and if it is bad, what would be the process of fixing it.

Cheapest check would be a $10 Compact Flash Card PCMCIA adaptor with known data on the card and see if it mounts on desktop.

Also, 10.2.2 through 10.2.8 had terrible PCMCIA support and if your'e running Jaguar, that may be the whole problem.

Try opening up your Powerbook. Maybe the connector is not connected. Could be a 10 minute fix.

Hello chaps
As my firewire port (PB G4 667 TI) has been dead for a long time I use the cardbus slot with a fw card, just stopped working yesterday, card and drive works ok in my other PB (G3 333) . So can anyone assist me.
I am quite willing get technical with this PB, even boot into firmware just need the commands to test the port. I know the card works I suspect some lock up in the hardware. I see the cardbus in the system profiler even when it is not plugged in, maybe this has something to do with the problem??>

reviving the slot: one suggestion would be to reset the PRAM, either holding down the required keys through 6 startup chimes, or by using Open Firmware to reset all. You'll find the info on how to do that on Apple's support site. Worth a try.
