There are short periods of time when I leave my iBook unattended, & although nobody has swiped it yet, I know the possibility exists.

So I'm wondering if anyone out there has ever had to use the services of LapCop, and if so, how did it work out?

Are there any other similar apps out there that do the same thing?

Thanks.

Ignore those two. That question didn't warrant being asked once, so twice is just dumb. Obviously a normal person doesn't have their laptop connected to their body at all times. It could be stolen any time or from any place, whether you're near it or not.

Anyway, have not tried LapCop, but looks interesting. BTW, I looked up the URL and its:

Actually maybe why he has to leave his iBook unattended would shed some light on why a particular way of protection would warrant his need. That is why I asked. there are a few other things that you can do as well.

There are alot of other programs as well. There is one that is available through CompUSA, that puts a barcode on your laptop. You register it on there website, and the barcode says there name and offers a reward. If found this company gives the finder a reward if they report it, and they arrange everything for you to get it back, from what I remember. I should have the details and a link to the site soon. Hopefully????

Why do you leave your iBook unattended?

I second that question, why do you leave it unattended?

I tried the surgical implant thing, but it was too painful, & there were problems in the shower & with the GF...

I leave it on my desk when I go to the can.
I leave it on my desk when I walk the dog.
I leave it on my desk when I have lunch, which is in another room about 50 feet away.
I leave it in my car (locked in the trunk) when I'm out on a job site.
I leave it at home (unattended!) when I go shopping or out to a movie or any other human activity that doesn't require a computer. (Yes Virginia, there are some activities that don't require a computer...)

A Ghost Is Born: I like your idea of the Kensington lock - seems like a good disincentive to the casual thief.

As far as the other stuff goes, LapCop is still the most appealing option.

My original question still stands though - is anybody actually using it?
