Hello,
Lots of issues going on here, I'll try to keep it concise. I have a Rev. B Powerbook with the warranty set to expire in 6 days. (I chose not to buy Applecare b/c I normally sell the computer within a year to 18 months.)
A few days ago I installed a new 80GB hard drive, as I outgrew the standard 40GB. I followed the instructions on www.pbfixit.com to the letter, and the installation went off without a hitch. I've installed hard drives and CD drives in the different iBook and iMac models over the past few years, and this was not even the most difficult out of them all.
After loading in the new hard drive & installing the OS, I burned four DVDs. It all went perfectly well except I noticed that upon ejecting the discs, when they were already all the way 'out', the drive made an extra 'click' or 'push' to get it out as if it was stuck. It had never made this extra noise prior to installing the new hard drive. The discs were ejecting totally normal without getting stuck, so I thought nothing of it. However, tonight, I put a disc in, transferred files, ejected the disc, and went to put it back in. The CD drive acts as if it is dead. I can put the ENTIRE CD in the drive and it doesn't 'suck' it in.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what would cause this? At first I thought perhaps I didn't re-align the powerbook's top-case properly, that the case's slot wasn't aligning with the drive's slot, but it all looks perfectly normal, and I didn't even touch anything near the cd drive during the process. I think that I've voided my warranty by installing the new hard drive myself, as I'm not a certified technician. Plus, my warranty expires in 6 days. Does anyone have any ideas of how I can fix this or even figure out what has gone wrong?
I really appreciate any help. For reference, this is with a 12" PB 1GHZ, 768MB Ram, and the new hard drive is a Toshiba 80GB 5400rpm 16mb cache 9.5mm tall model. I'm running a totally up-to-date system, currently at 10.3.6.
Thank you!

Update: This morning when I woke my Powerbook (it was only asleep, didn't do a restart)....upon waking up the CD drive made regular noises as if it was ejecting a CD for about 20 seconds. I am positive there is nothing stuck in the drive. I tried then putting a CD in, and it immediately sucked it in. It also ejected it properly, but still with that extra 'click' or shove when it's already mostly out....any ideas? Should I take the case apart again and hope that putting it back together will solve any problem that was caused?
Thanks!
Josh

I'd take the top case off again, make sure the optical drive connector is firmly attached to the MLB (it's a tight fit), and replace the top case again, making sure it is lined up and snapped in correctly. I might even try operating the machine with the case off and see if disks go in and out of the drive correctly.
