Recently I've started using my iBook 12" 1ghz for dealing with big video files, and it isn't uncommon for me to be moving 9gb to and from my iBook every day. I have the 30gb HD (which usually only has about 15gb free), and use a Firewire DVD burner. Is it bad for my HD to be used like this? Just wondering if it could cause it to fragment a bit as I think the computer is getting a little slower. With a bit of luck I'll be doing this work on an iMac G5, but until then... thanks

No worry, your harddrive will do fine

if you are noticing any slowdowns run diskutility and repair the permissisions. That should help with any slowdowns you are having. I constantly move movie files that are 3-9 GB all the time no problems here.

How often should you repair permissions? What do you need to after just moving files?

no not after every file if you are getting lag after every file check your ram. Go to activity monitor and see how many pages in/out you have if it is over 6 digits I would recomend upgrading your ram. I do mine 1 a month or if I notice a slowdown.
