hello all,

This has been an intermitent problem, but now is happening in a regular basis...

When I have the tiBook plugged with the power cord, it boots normally.
If I have it running just with battery, it shows the apple logo + the spining progress, and when it should pass to the boot screen, it remains in a grey screen...

The battery is full and hasn't given any problem in the past.

I tried doing a safe boot and it boots ok
the next time I try a normal boot, it doesn't pass the gey screen after the apple logo...

Any one have a clue of what this might be? (it's quite embarrassing when I go to some meeting...

TIA!

[edit]
after testing again, it boots after almost 5 minutes...
(if connectd to the power cord, it is pretty quick to boot)

Reset PRAM and try again. Also try starting pluged in, unplug and shutdown. See if preferences are updated.

If not trash EnergySaver.prefPane

Nah. PRAM wouldn't do that, and the prefs aren't loaded till later.

Instead, try doing a Power Manager reset. On your model, there's a little button between the VGA and modem ports. Turn off the computer and press the button for 5 seconds.

(This article has instructions for how to do this on all models.)

after doing some tests, I found out the following:

resetting the power management (the rear button), didn't solve it...
zapping the PRAM did the work!

of course this might not be the answer, as the mac was restarted several times and it might have influenced the test...

My next test will be performed tomorrwo, after letting the mac rest...

I'll post the results.

Resetting the Power Manager always resets the PRAM as a consequence.

you're right tooki.

unfortunately, after doing the test after the mac rested, it keeps having the same problem...

I might have to take it to a technitian, as I think this may be hardware related... (because I have other persistent problems, such as lack of audio...)
