Hey everyone,

I have a small TV in my room which I have my gamecube hooked up to. Unfortunately the sound is pretty much shot on the TV so it makes playing the games a lot less enjoyable. Is there anyway to hook the audio up to my computer to have it play through my USB computer speakers?

I have a Rev. B 15 inch AlBook.

Thanks,
Greg

if you've got a mic/sound-in port, it should be relatively easy - just a quick run to radio-shack for a RCA to miniplug cable.

If you don't, it'd probably take getting some sort of PC card or something to add a sound-in port.

[EDIT] - according to Apple's site, the 15" AlBooks have a line-in port - so just go buy the cable, and plug everything in...[/EDIT]

Sounds great -- I'll buy that either tonight or tomorrow.

Followup Question: Do I need some specific software to be able to do this, or is there something built in that can handle the task?

Thanks,
Greg

No extra software. Just set up the sound in and sound out in your Sound preferences.

I tried this -- I set the sound in to be the line in -- and I see some movement on sound thing when the gamecube 'makes noise', but I don't hear it coming out of my speakers.

Is there something else I need to do?

Thanks,

Greg

Use SoundStudio or something like that to redirect the audio signal outwards again.

Check Play-through in the Audio/MIDI setup utility.

Well thats certainly a step in the right direction!

When I do that, the sound comes out of the built-in speakers and not my USB speakers though. And the 'master' volume control doesn't seem to effect it.

Any more tips?

That works perfectly, do you happen to know of any free alternatives?

This should really not be this hard. Did you set the sound out in Sound preferences to the USB speakers? Mac Help even mentions how to do this, which I find to be extremely rare.

Yes, of course I have done this... the speakers work perfectly for everything else, and using the shareware app Sound Studio even work for the gamecube. I was just wondering if there was a free alternative, since my needs utilize such a small portion of the application.

Regards,

Greg
