Hi everyone,
I'm heading to art school next september and i have to buy a mac. Due to limited finances, i'm giving serious thought to the 12 inch powerbook. Does anyone know if this will be sufficient to run art software, and if the screen is big enough? I'm sure i'll need to add more ram, but is it worthwhile to go with the 12?
Thanks for your help

art software...specifically??

i use my rev3 12" for everything: audio work, webdesign, fce, etc...and it is fine.

u get used to the screen, and can always add an external display if needed.

and the portability rocks!

what apps are you planning to run?

I'd venture to guess that everything you need to run will run at an acceptable level. I know photoshop, all the macromedia web design/graphics design products, etc... work very well on my 15" 1.5ghz powerbook. With a 1.33ghz processor I would be suprised if they were noticably slower. You may want to shell out the extra cash to get a 5400rpm hard drive though, it would be benificial when working with large files in photoshop, as would more ram... ram is good
Mac: 15" 1.5ghz PB w/ 128mb vid, 5400rpm 80gb, combo drive, 2gb ram

I run all that stuff on my Rev B 12" and haven't hit a kink yet. You should be fine with a stock 12" but I too would suggest the HD upgrade and RAM is a must, I forgot to mention that I have a 1.25 gigs of RAM in my 'book.
NOW YOU SEE ME! 2.4 MBP and 2.0 MBP (running ubuntu)

I run Macromedia Studio and a bunch of image editing software all the time on my 12" Rev. C Powerbook, and it runs just fine. I do use an external display when I'm at home, but even using just the PB's screen, I don't really feel cramped for screen space.
