ok, so here's a question. Is it possible to keep my PB running when I close it (the screen, that is)? Sometimes I just want to listen to music, or mirror it to another display but the only thing I can do is dim the screen cuz it goes to sleep everytime I close it. I know it's supposed to do that but is there a way to prevent this?

*sigh*...
Read your manual. Plug in Power, External Display, Keyboard, and Mouse, and lid-closed operation will be possible.

do windows laptops have to be shut down and restarted when closing and opening the case?
my stepmother was amazed this past holiday- I could just open and close my computer w/o messing anything up.

You can assign it to do certain things when the lid is closed on most PC laptops I believe: do nothing, standby, hibernate.

Allright here you go...
1.) Close lid, putting computer to sleep
2.) Plug in power
3.) Plug in external display
4.) Plug in external USB keyboard and mouse (can be possible with bluetooth, with some minor option changes)
5.) Hit any key and the computer should wake right up
That should be all you need to do.
Goodluck

I do not think it is possible for you to use your powerbook in "clamshell" mode without an external display. I am not sure what you are trying to do, but if you just want to listen to music, you could use the brightness keys and turn of the display. I am not sure if that will accomplish what you want but it is an idea.
