I am in the market for an iBook in the near future and i was considering the bluetooth feature. Aside from the fact that the only BT feature i will use is the mouse, the other thing that made me hesitate getting BT is this:
In my house i have a wireless network through a linksys router and i am the only wireless user. When our phone rings (2.4 ghz phones opposed to 900mhz) the internet signal will be interrupted until the phone is hung up. This is very very annoying and inconvenient. Not being familiar with BT, i see specs like "Carrier Frequency: 2.4GHz ~ 2.480GHz" for BT mice and i get worried.
My question is will the BT usage interfere with my wireless network? Thanks in advance.

Edit: i should've mentioned this was happening on a dell laptop with internal 802.11g card, if that makes a difference.

I would recommend getting an affordable 5.8 GHz phone. OR try to switch the broadcast channel (????) of the router.

BT shouldn't be interupted by the 2.4GHz. I think it broadcasts at a different signal.

I've used my Apple BT mouse on both of my iBooks while using Airport without any problems. One is an older iBook with the 802.11b Airport Card, the other a G4 iBook with the Airport Extreme (802.11g) card.

I would agree with the above post. Try changing the channel on either your phone or on your wireless router. That should help with your phone issues.

I would also recommend that you get the Bluetooth module. While you may only use it for a mouse at first, something may come up down the road that you may need (or want) it for. Having it built in means one less thing you have to worry about carrying around or loosing.

Definitely get it when you buy the computer... I am regretting it like mad now. Its one of the only features you cannot add after you buy the computer. So its really get it now, or dont get it at all. Unless you get the ugly usb thing, which i am going to have to buy
