I have a 12" iBook G3 700 - my boss wants me to replace the white screen lid (which is gummed up with some sort of dried glue) with a replacement part (which he bought off ebay)... I looked up a copy of iBook repair literature, and nothing I've found details a procedure on how to open the LCD casing.
I removed the 4 hex screws that were in place and tried to pry up to white case, but the LCD plastics did not want to separate. I examined the replacement part - it looks like there is some kind of glue contact patch that meets the LCD, as well as screw holes for mounting the LCD...
Has anybody done this without ripping apart the entire machine? Any ideas on how to replace this without destroying the original LCD?
Thanks...

You're already nearly there; just work away at the case and it will come away and then you can clip on the new one. If you have the screen open at a 45 degree angle, the iBook in front of you, as if you were using it, plce your thumbs on the case edge, your fingers along the top edge. Push gently with your fingers, all around the screen, starting in a corner, working along to the opposite corner, then down the sides. Keep doing that and it comes away. I hope my description makes sense.
Or, hey, maybe a picture would work better:

Okay - so keep doing what I was doing in other words...
Thank you for the reply - I still haven't gotten to pulling it apart again - kind of got discouraged when I got very few results after jamming a screwdriver between the two parts of the case - guess my nails will take the abuse. I'll post up with pictures on the rest of the procedure once I'm done.
Thanks!

use a credit card/blockbuster card to pry instead of your nails or a screwdriver.

What about the bottom case?
Does it come right off like the top too?
