If I was to buy a refurb Ibook with no airport extreme, and then decide to get one, would it be installed inside the computer as to not protrude out, or would it have to stick out like the older wireless cards via pcmia slots. Thanks.

Airport is always inside the computer. Depending on the iBook it's either Airport (11 Mbps) or Airport Express (54 Mbps). The new iBooks (1.2 GHz) come with an Airport Express card preinstalled, you may wanna take that into consideration.

The AirPort card goes inside the computer, under the upper area of the keyboard. You can install it yourself. You have to get the type of card that works with your computer; the most recent ones take AirPort Extreme cards, while earlier ones take basic AirPort cards. I think the changeover was from the G3 to the G4 series (I could be way off; check the specs of whatever computer you get).
