Hi all. Just a little help needed on the best way to transfer my files and applications from my old iMac to my new powerbook which should be with me in the morning.

If your iMac has FireWire you can connect the two machines via FiWi, power your iMac up while holding the "T" key, it should start in FiWi "target mode" and it´s Harddisk should appear as a volume on your PBs desktop. Then you simply drag the whole stuff you want to keep to the PBs HD, alternative: network the two machines via Ethernet (you don´t need a crossover cable since the PBs port is auto sensing).

don't forget that many applications installed files into the system (library, ect)

If you plan to transfer the system as well, I recomend using disk utility, (connect both macs using any of the methods described by euphras), and restore the OS X drive into the new OS X drive.

If it's a new PB, when you start up, you'll be asked if you a FW-enabled Mac or external HD. All you'll then need to do is hook the two up and let the system handle all of the moving. Just remember to repair permissions afterward.
