I have a less than month old Maxtor 250gb HD in a black SpeedMetal USB/FW case hooked up to a 17" 1.5ghz pbook. Last night I was trying to burn a dvd off the drive and when I returned it had burned about half of it and then stalled. I checked finder and it seemed that the drive was gone. Then I checked disk utility to see if it was there and it sees it but the drive name is in grey and the status says unmounted. I tried to run NortonDiskDoctor on it but it says I have to restart half way through. Does anyone know how I can fix this? I basically just finished recovering my old drive and putting everything on this one so it really sucks.

Thanks

Just to verify: are you using an AC adaptor for the enclosure or trying to power it off of FW or USB? If it comes with an AC adaptor or requires one, use it. Other than that, does rebooting or disconnecting and reconnecting fix it?

I am using an ac adapter, but i think i have solved the problem with Norton Volume Recover. It made a virtual volume, and is allowing me to pull all the data it found onto another drive. Thanks for the help
