I was wondering what the acceptable temperature is for a powerbook before the metal starts to warp and things general begin to degrade. Whenever I play NWN my fan sounds like a jet engine before takeoff, and using temperature monitor I've clocked it nearing 70 degrees Celcius. The bottom isn't just hot, it's scalding. This happens with all games, though for whatever reason it seems to be slightly less severe with WoW and Myst. Is there some sort of procedure that would help me moderate the temperature? I've tried a stand but it didn't really help much, and while switching the processor speed to lower settings helped keep the cpu from overheating it also hampered performance rather drastically.

Any thoughts?

I like to use my RainDesign iLap laptop stand. It's made from anodized aluminum. You rest your PB on top of the stand. The bottom of your laptop comes in contact with the iLap. It's a great thermal conductor and acts as a huge heat sink for your PB but it hasn't singed my lap!

Another option is to just point a small desk fan at your PB.

I know it's asking a lot, but could you maybe fire up temperature monitor when your machine is under high-processor load and record the temperatures with and without the stand? The one I have now doesn't really aid with heat dissipation and I'm a little wary of every other stand maker the world over boasting about superior cooling.

ya the icurve, the coolpad are all decent solutions. But gaming is one of the most intensive things you can do on your computer. It makes the processor crank, the video card crank, the hd crank, etc. With everything on full speed of course it's gonna get warm, and the fans will kick on high attempting to dissipate that extra heat created. So you can try, but chances are she's gonna run hot, mine runs at about 149° F when i game. I have a 12" 1.33/80GB(5400)/768 etc etc.
