First of all, my PowerBook kicks ass. I've had it for four months, and every time I wake it up from sleep, it still makes me happy .

Anyway, I'm a little worried that Apple will introduce a machine on January 10 that will blow mine out of the water...possibly even a G5. Even if it isn't a G5, it's bound to have a better screen, better battery life, better processor, etc. Apple knows that without these, they'll start losing customers...a lot of them.

I did some research, and found that I can cancel bids in an eBay auction at any point, even a minute before the auction ends.

The cost to list the item, if it isn't won, is $5.

Thus, I was thinking about putting my PowerBook up for sale, and then having the auction end right after the SteveNote! If nothing *insanely amazing* is released, then I'll just cancel the bids.

There are two things that I'm worried about, though.

A) What are the chances that a buyer would actually honor the agreement and follow through, given that much better computers have been released for probably around the same price (if they're far more expensive, that's also a no go for me). Would I need to be sure that they have a high feedback rating? Even if they do, we're talking $2000 vs. losing their eBay account. I, for one, would just let them take my account away...

B) How long would it take to get a PowerBook delivered if I were to order it right upon release? I don't think I can wait more than a month, seeing as how I sort of need my computer for school (although using the computer lab for a bit wouldn't kill me).

Suggestions?

Remember, I don't want to sell my computer! I love it to death! This would just be a precautionary measure. It's like insurance for $5 .

Wait, will your computer spontaneously stop working the day after new ones are released?

Do you really have all that money to blow?

Do you need some blogging software?

Attention?

Questions, questions.

It's almost no money blown, and even if I put it up, there'd only be a 2% chance of following through with it.

As I said, it's called covering my ass.

You don't have to semi-flame me.

No, you should be semi-flamed in this one. Get used to the fact that someone is always going to have a better computer than yours.
Even if they announce an addition to the PB line, it'll still be likely that it takes a few months to ship. And while unlikely, a G5 PB would be rev a.

You sound, far far too worried about money and resale value *in the majority of your posts* than you are in using your computer to the best of its abilities.

Get a girlfriend and you'll find all of this is far less important than it seems now.

The simple fact is that my computer has a few issues: Battery life, screen brightness, speed, etc. These issues do affect my usage of the machine, while in most equivalent PC laptops, the issues don't exist.

The majority of my posts have me worried, as I have nothing else to post about. Does that tell you anything about my life, or what I think about the other 23.5-23.9 hours of the day?

Battery life, screen brightness, scratches, etc., happen to all laptops, Macs or PCs.

I'd be more comfortable with a truly top of the line computer, rather than one that's nine months behind. I'd have the same issues down the line, but that'd be much farther down the line.

Once again, I love my machine, and chances are that I'm not going to sell it. It'd probably be a very stupid move, and I acknowledge that.

Everyone gets a case of "upgrade fever". That's natural. Just don't let it get to you. You still have a very, very good machine. Make it last until the rev b G5 PBs are out and you'll be smokin'.

One thing I tell all my customers:

"There is ALWAYS a new model."

You bought a computer. There will be a new model. That's life. Deal with it.

Forget the possibility of new PowerBooks. I'd be pretty damn pissed if some ass hole pulled their eBay auction 1 minute before I was about to win. If you are not sure you will be selling you PB then don't list it.

Uhh not only that, its unethical, technically illegal, and could get your eBay account taken away. To quote eBay:
In general, sellers should not cancel bids on their auctions.

Legitimate reasons to cancel a bid include:
* A bidder contacts you to back out of the bid.
* You cannot verify the identity of the bidder after trying all reasonable means of contact.
Cancelling bids because you decided you didn't want to sell it is not reasonable.

Uh, plus, if you really want to upgrade to another Powerbook, won't it save a whole lot of worry just to wait to sell your old one until after the new ones have actually been released?

Fixed™

It's called "fraud," and it's a felony. If you're looking to get your leather donut stretched out and karma-f*cked to boot, by all means go for it.
