Issue: Powerbook Pismo with replaced optical drive (see below for type) will not boot off of any CD, including brand new DiskWarrior for X, OS X, Yellow Dog Linux, etc.

Attempted: Put in CD and held down C. Booted to OS X and not CD. Then put in Disk Warrior CD, failed. OS X CD, failed. Put in CD, held down Option with desire to click on CD manually. The CD did not show up. Took apart optical drive and cleaned, reseated and replaced back into caddy.

Oddities: Burning CDs in iTunes, playing CD based games and mounting of CDs is not giving any problem at all.

Tried: Zapping P-Ram 5 times, resetting OF (neither worked for CD boot). Tried some OF commands to force CD boot (like boot-cd), response of "no cd" or some such.

Fear: Motherboard issue.

Desire: Powerbook G5

Until then: Hope someone here can offer ideas to get it working.

Hey bstone

Did you use a Old DVD-Rom Cage(mount)??? If you did I believe you need to solder a pin or two on the mount(Cage) from what I remember along time ago... If I can remember where I saw it, I'll post it...

Have Great Holiday's!!!

There is a full article on this at xlr8yourmac.com. The drive is set to slave, it won't wrork as a startup drive. They show how to convert a drive from slave to master.
