Hi
I have a PowerBook G5 15inch 1.5G now, just how much faster will a PowerBook G5 compare to the current G4? Is it worthy to sale it now and wait for the new G5?
Thanks

No one outside Apple's walls in Cupertino knows...anyone else who says they know of PowerBook G5 details is just speculating.

When the Powerbook G5 makes its debut at WWDC 2006, you can compare it then.
Does anyone really think that there will be a G5 chip inside a 15" or 12" Powerbook any time soon. They might be able to get one inside the spacious 17" Powerbook ahead of the other two. Maybe. But not anytime soon.
Look at what it takes to get it in the iMac (high speed, whining fans people are complaining about in various forums) and the fans in the PowerMac. Who here thinks the current itty-bitty little Powerbook fan is going to keep the GPU and a G5 cool? And if it could, it would run virtually all the time! I can just hear the complaints now!
IBM will have to come up with a G5 Mobile version (similar to the Intel Pentium Mobile) before you see a G5 in the Powerbook series.
You may well see dual-core G4 in January at MacWorld. That is more realistic.

The dual-core G4 will be a nice upgrade, if Apple goes that route at MacWorld.
I really believe that you are going to see a break in the PowerBook line. The 12" will NOT get a G5 chip for a long time, due to the small size and heat issues associated with it.
While the 17" will get a G5 eventually. The question is which side of the split does the 15" fall into?
Unless IBM/Apple can come up with some kind of Centrino like clone (nice mobo chipset, wireless and G5 mobile processor).
Call it the MacTrino?

That is AWESOME.
Right after my post I was thinking of a way to someone draw a huge PowerBook G5.
With that picture, you rule!

Bummer.
So there won't be anything much better than my 17, 1.33 7,200 rpm w/ 2GB of ram for some time then.
I just don't see the semi-stock 1.5 GHZ as bieng that much of an improvement.
I have had my rig for 15 months now and it still smokes the competiton.
I'll get a dual 3GHZ G5 desktop when it comes out then....

I'd bet that the PM line goes to 3Ghz before we see a PB G5.

ROFL!
BTW: Am I the only one in the world that suddenly wants SMALLER notebooks. The PC world has all but abandoned the small formfactor (except for a few decent boxes by Sony & Fujitsu, and 1 or 2 by HP). But even those boxes are sub-par.
Look at the crappy video card in the Avertec for example ...
What happened to the formfactor of the Toshiba Tecra 9100?
I've got my Dell Inspiron 8200 brick and Thinkpad A31 from 2002 ... they serve me fine, but as I travel more and more they are REALLY annoying. I can't open the Dell in coach .... no room to flip the screen up.
The 12" Powerbook is perfect. The 12" iBook is perfect. I think Apple's got a niche here that's largly being ignored by the PC world. Lot's of power in a small case. (As opposed to small power in a small case, and lots of power in a big case.)

I've added the two batteries now as well as some 3rd party power management stuff & the latest Dell patches. I get about 4-5 hours now. (At the price of having a 12 lb notebook)
I like the T series, but it's like twice the price (3 times the price?) of a 12" powerbook.
Also: With the Thinkpad line being taken over by some weird asian company that I've never heard of before I'm a little gunshy with spending money on it. The whole point of buying IBM was support, and long term support. I'm backing off from them for a while until I see how it plays out.
