Try using a damp cloth.

The Geniuses at the Apple Store sell a spray solution for the screen, but a damp cloth works fine for me. Don't ever squirt any liquids directly onto the screen: the liquids may run down the screen past the bezel and into the circuitry.

Agreed. If that doesn't work, Apple recommends using a 50% rubbing alcohol solution, which is the base of many cleaners (including the stuff Apple sells to you ).

Moist (NOT wet) kitchen towel to wipe the screen down with, dry kitchen towels to remove the moisture.

Don't squeeze the towel out against the screen, you don't want to get any water running down it.

Thats the cheap way to clean it anyway.

You could use monitor wipes that are made for that. You can get 70 antistatic monitor wipes that are safe for laptops for around 5-7 dollars. They work great to clean everything.

I use a light touch with a Swiffer cloth to pick up the dust so I'm not grinding it into the surface when I clean wet. I use Formula 409 to dissolve grease, and then regular Windex to polish off the film left behind from the 409.

about the 50% alcohol solution, i'm sure it's fine on the exterior, but it's always been my understanding to never use any alcohol-based cleaner on the display itself as it could break down the screen and make it brittle.
