I ordered a new keyboard for my 500Mhz dual-usb iBook (original white version) and the replacement keyboard that Apple sent me has a metal tab on the lower right-hand side that extends about 4mm further than the original. It doesn't fit right, and won't lock closed with the right tab. I think that they sent me the wrong one? It works fine (typing with it now); but I can't really close the iBook with this one... Any ideas?

Hmm.. when you ordered it, did you let them know you needed one for an old iBook? They may have sent you one for a newer G4 model. In fact, I'd wager that is what happened. Contact them ASAP. See if they can fix your conundrum.

Well, I went to Home Depot and bought some "end wire cutters" (like fingernail clippers, only bigger and stronger) to clip back the extended tab. It worked great. I think that they probably did send me the wrong keyboard... but I read my serial number back to them from System Profiler, so they should have known. Oh well, it works now.

And there's no more squeaking! :-)

Glad it worked out. LOL Though, I hope it never breaks again in case "trimming" isn't covered by the warranty.
