Titanium Processor Upgrades?

Maybe this is a dumb question, but I searched and couldn't find any threads on this subject...

Why are there processor upgrades for older powerbooks (Pismo, etc.), but nothing from the Titanium series on (or am I incorrect on this?).

I have a 1 ghz titanium, and if there was a 1.5 ghz upgrade, I'd consider it. Is there a hardware issue? One of the reasons I bought a powerbook after having an ibook was for it's supposed ability to be upgraded. Any knowledge to pass on?

I haven't seen any either. I have had 2 processor upgraded machines and realized 2 things. 1. they are never as fast as the upgrade would suggest, because of bus and ram speeds. And 2. they are expensive for the extra speed you do get out of them. Hope this helps

As far as I know, the CPUs in the TiBooks are soldered onto the motherboards, so there's no practical way to upgrade the CPU.

The PowerBooks have PC Card slots and more RAM slots. That's about the extent of the superior expandability over an iBook.

Indeed, there is no real way to upgrade speed in a newer PowerBook without replacing the logic board, which is a difficult proposition to do outside of the same generation of book anyways. Not really possible from a reasonable point of view.

Actually I think the design of the MB on the Pismo's is similar, but there are upgrades for them. You need to send it in, but they are available. I actually upgraded a Pismo and found the upgrade didn't make a great deal of difference.

Not exactly.

The Pismo's CPU is on a daughtercard (together with the cache and, IIRC, the boot ROM). Those upgrades just take the CPU daughtercard and replace its CPU, which is MUCH easier than doing the same thing on a motherboard.
