hey everybody, I am in desperate need of some help. I stupidly volunteered to replace the bezel on my friend's iBook. His snapped and I had successfully switched one on my girlfriends.

He bought a bezel off eBay and last night I took it apart, swapped the LCD into the new bezel without any incidents and powered up.

And nothing. It starts up fine, the LCD still works, but there's no backlight. So, I thought maybe the bezel came with a bad inverter board and I popped the old one back in. Still nothing. Then I thought maybe one of the cables in the new bezel was bad, so put the whole concoction back into the original broken bezel and it's still dark. All the cables are tight, the connections are there - I'm stumped.

I don't know what the hell to do next. Anyone have any suggestions?

thanks a lot,
ML

You may have broken your backlight. It might need to be replaced.

swichd, thanks for replying, but could you specify where I could find this backlight? I've done a lot of research and haven't heard of anything specifically named 'the backlight.'

The backlight is a cold cathode floresent tube. Here is how to do it. The part can be purchased for ~$10 USD. Hope this helps!

thanks a lot for the help guys. I'll relay the info to my friend and see what he wants to do next. I've never soldered before and I think I'll let him proceed on his own...I know I'm gonna get my a$s chewed out. thanks tho.
