Hi, a month ago i bought my incredible Ibook , i was fascinated at it. My brother was so fascinated too that he asked my dad another one for him, so i told him i would give him mine and i would buy another.
Yesterday, i was told by a friend that some group of friends are going to make a LAN party every week from now on, so i said i would go too, but i know Mac games arent so compatible with PC games... so what should i do .. do i buy an ibook again or do i buy a PC laptop?

I don't think making an investment like a laptop choice should be based on trying to go to a lan party every week with your friends.

Get another 12" ibook for 999$ than build a small gaming shuttle pc for around 1000$ and you will get the best of both worlds for less than a gaming laptop.

Any laptop that will run games slightly "decent" (I would never recommend a laptop for games) is going to cost you at least 2000+

So i should buy a desktop pc? (im not planning on investing on another computer)
The only thing im looking at the Ibook is for the OSX (and for no virus, no crash, etc.)
The question is: an ibook or a pc desktop for doing those jobs?

That is your decision. What's more important to you? Playing games with your friends with the downside of a sh*tty os and lack of laptop or Having a decent os with a laptop but the downside is little to no gaming with friends.

iBook. You'll be so cool that your friends will all want one as well since there's more to life than lan parties.

Have you looked at the emachines laptops?
Ok before you all start laughing, I bought an emachines laptop with an athlon64 cpu, 512 pc2700, 60GB hard drive, radeon 9600 video card, and a 15.4" wide screen for $1,250.
I've had this thing for about 8 months and the only complaint I have is the slow hard drive, which is common for most laptops.
I can play CnC Generals, Farcry, and Doom 3 with decent frame rates and it's the perfect lan party machine. And did I mention this is the only computer I use at work? This think tears through word processing and web browsing lol
I don't mean to bash the ibook or your potential mac investment, but if gaming is important to you, and you really want a laptop, you can get a windows based gaming machine for under $1,500.

yeah but an xbox is only good for sports games and modding. I cant stand playing first person shooters or real time strategy games on a console.
but god i love a modded xbox...

well I guess you could get an old mac laptop like a pismo, and get a new pc. The best of both worlds.

I understand that this is a MAC forum.... but come on. When someone say's that they do not want two computer.... I'm pretty sure answers and recomendations should be limited to him having one computer.
Homer, you have two options from my point of view. Either buy a PC laptop that can game, but the speed will not be as fast as a simalrly priced desktop. Those shuttle PC's are really nice but then you'd have to worry about a monitor.
Steve's Emachines laptop works great for everything, and he got it at a very decent price. Something like that would be your best bet.
I'd only get an ibook in your situation if i was all into graphic design or whatever

personal preference aside, it all comes down to your priorities. think of what you find appealing about each platform, then weigh your options.
If you only game once a week at your friends house, and you really like the ibook, then get an ibook.
If you're a hardcore gamer and you're only interested in the ibook to try something new, then get a wintel based laptop.
Ive wanted to try out macs for years, which is what brought me to this forum in the first place. But when it came time for me to decide which route to take 8 months ago, I had to get the emachines because im and avid gamer.
Now that I have the gaming laptop and ibooks are getting more and more affordable, im starting to save up some cash so i can buy one.

Figure out what games are going to be played the most amongst your buddies and if their Mac games too, then get an iBook and deal with the crap graphics (thats what I do with Halo, and I still tear them up a new one). If it's games you cant get on an iBook then get a PC lappy. For $1500 you could get a used 15" PB with a ATI 9600 or better, try some searching.

NOW YOU SEE ME! 2.4 MBP and 2.0 MBP (running ubuntu)

The day you buy an ibook.... i dunno, everyone you know will take you down a few notches. When you think about what you could've done to your gaming PC for the price of the ibook you'll grow to hate, you'll probably end up commiting sucide lol
Anytime you want to play with one, you can mess with Nicki's to help ya decide.

Don't go into it thinking there will never be any problems, I've witnessed our ibook have its share of problems. But you are right, it is diffantly something different.
