I think the ram is OK. Here is info from Apple:

"The more memory your computer has, the more programs you can run simultaneously, and the better performance you get from your computer. It's especially important to have sufficient memory if you work on large, graphics-intensive files or computation-intensive programs. Increasing the amount of memory is an easy way to improve performance.

All PowerBooks come with at least 256 megabytes (MB). That's plenty of room to support most day-to-day business tasks, multimedia applications, and web operations.

PowerBook G4 contains double data rate (DDR), synchronous dynamic random-access memory (SDRAM)--one of the fastest memory technologies available today. DDR-SDRAM improves performance and reliability by synchronizing memory speed with the speed of the central processor so that data can be delivered continuously and more rapidly to the processor.

You can increase the system memory of the 12-inch PowerBook G4 to up 1.25GB of memory. The 15-inch and 17-inch PowerBook G4s can be increased to 2 gigabytes (GB) of memory. All PowerBook G4s use PC2700 SO-DIMMs (DDR333 SDRAM SO-DIMM).

Important: Double data rate SDRAM is closely correlated with your computer's processor. Use PC2700 DDR333 SO-DIMMs for all 167Mhz system bus PowerBook G4s. You should purchase DDR-SDRAM SO-DIMMs that have been tested and approved for your system. If you don't purchase memory directly from Apple, be sure to check with the third-party manufacturer to verify compatibility before purchase. "
