Hi, I need some help. I am a college student. I wanna buy the 12" ibook. I don't know anything about mac's. I will use this for homework, music and basic photoshop work. Is it fast enough for photoshop work? I might add 512mb ram but i don't know what kinda of ram I can install.
I need some advice. Please help me. Thanks

The Ibook will do that and more. Make sure to add the 512 megs of ram though, you'll be a happier man. As for the type, do a search or simply look at the different threads in this forum. The ram and type has been discussed to death.
I have the same set up that you are thinking off and I love it.

I have the older 12" Powerbook 1GHz, and the new iBooks are better machines all around than my PB, and I could do all that your saying and more. I got a 512MB stick laying around from Crucial (run a search and you'll see their very respected amongst the Apple community) and I'll chuck it to ya for a good price. Not to make this a sale or anything, you shouldn't worry bout your iBook not being able to handle your work, it could take that and more.

NOW YOU SEE ME! 2.4 MBP and 2.0 MBP (running ubuntu)

There is currently a terrific deal at some college bookstores: a 1GHZ iBook 12". It was recently replaced by the 1.2 GHZ iBook. The only difference between the two is the small speed increase and built-in Airport Extreme in the new iBook.
I purchased mine for $649 at the University of Oregon bookstore; I saw a post noting the same iBook going for $600 at UCLA. The original price was $1099. Even if you add an optional Airport Extreme card ($69 at the U of O) it is a great deal.
If this iBook isn't available in your area I would bet that the U of O bookstore would ship one to you; that is how I got mine. ( I did order it in person.) All you will need is proof of your student status and a credit card.
I wouldn't hesitate for long if you are really serious about getting a 12" iBook: this is such a good deal at least a couple of staffers at the U of O mentioned that they were going to buy one!

If you do not own a license for Photoshop you could try out Gimp first - it is open source and free. If you then consider that it does not do the job for you then buy Photoshop. Get it at http://gimp-app.sourceforge.net/
