After the Steve Speach next month I'm gonna pick up a new powerbook. I'm thinking about getting a 15inch Powerbook, from a 12 inch. What do you use your PCMCIA slot for? If the new Airport Extremes are built in There is no need to add an external card. carrd. I do not think it would work without being abele to disable the internal card anyway. What are you putting in you slot???

On my 15" PB I use the slot for a CF card reader and another video output device(for a 3rd display).

I use mine for reading my camera's CF card, too. I'm considering a 12" PowerBook or an iBook as my next purchase, though, as I don't use it much and may want an ultra-portable.

Thats a good idea. I guess I could do t he same with the a SD card.

If they make the 12inch the same speed as the 15 inch I'll just go that way. I love the small form factor. I was just worried about not having the expansion slot. Does not look like I'm missh much...

Thanks to all fro your responses.

I use mine for a CF card slot and plug in my old Netgear 701 wifi card to run Kismac for the occasional wardrive.

Some folks buy FW and USB cards to have more ports.

I'd buy the card reader one if it had good speeds. For the time being I've got usb job that cost me 20 bucks or something.

But then again I've only got usb 1.1 so maybe a usb 2 card...

Repeat after me:

"PCMCIA is dead.
Long live PC Card."

It's called PC Card now, and has been for years. The PCMCIA is the organization that creates the PC Card and CardBus standard.

Old habits die hard.

Why do people still use frames to make websites? Why does my Mom insist on using the term IBM instead of PC when referring to machines running windows?

Anyway, I think I'll finally be getting me a USB 2 pc card. I've seen em for around 30 bucks.
