Hi !
I bought this TiBook 800 2 years ago, and made the big mistake of using it plugged most of the time.
Two months ago, I changed the internal HD from a 40GB/4200 to a 60GB/5400. I hadn't noticed a battery problem before - though it might be because I almost never used it unplugged. After that, I noticed - on the train, trying to watch a DVD - that my battery capacity had gone down to about 1h30.
Today, it now lasts 20min on a full charge.

I'm going to change it, but I'd like to know if the problem could have stemmed from the new HD. I know I used the AC adaptor too much, but does this exlain why the battery has gone from 1h30 to 20min in two months ?

Thanks in advance...

In my understanding it improves accumulator life, if you use your machine plugged most of the time, you made no mistake. I´m thinking the stall of your accu capacity seems quite normal (maybe the faster HD is involved in the drain of caapacity). My machine (Ti, 667, DVI) is now 2 1/2 years old. For almost two years i had capacities of about 3 h, in the last half year my capacity has stalled dramatically, it´s now 15-20 min. It seems, that when NiMH-accus die, they die fast.

You have to calibrate your battery. There is a place that sells PowerBook batteries that says to fully charge up and then unplug and use battery (run a DVD) until it FULLY dies prepeat this process about 3 times.

Its common among batteries to die. AppleCare doesnt cover it. But this may work for you. My best advice is sometimes at the Apple Store (at least here in Cincinnati) there are usually official Apple batteries you can get on sale for $80. Since you dont use your laptop in battery mode often this would be the cheapest option.

Best of luck.
