I just recently sold my 17" powerbook, and I want to get a smaller lighter one, the 15" most likely. I want to get the setup with the single stick of 256 ram, and then get 2 512's from crucial. A friend of mine tells me that its gotta have at least one stick of Apple ram in the computer. I find this hard to believe, but is there any truth to his statement?

Thanks

This is not true at all. Crucial's RAM rules. Go for it.
Maybe your friend is confused because iBooks do have 256Mb on the mother board which cannot be removed, but it's not the case for PowerBooks.
You will lose the 256Mb stick though as there are only 2 slots.

That's what I thought. Thanks for clarifying it for me.

It's true that the 15" and 17" Powerbooks have entirely removable RAM, however, like the iBook, the 12" Powerbook has 256 MB soldered in, with only one slot for expanding the RAM. Just in case you're considering getting a 12" Powerbook.

Indeed, you're right. I forgot about the 12" PowerBook
