I've had my 17" PB (the 1.5 ghz) for quite a while now and it seems like its starting to boot up slower and slower. I do usually keep it going in just a wake and sleep cycle for long periods at a time...could that have something to do with it.

Anyway i'm talking about a full 4 or 5 minutes for boot up, what could be causing this. and yes i've looked through my startup items stuff in the user profile stuff and removed stuff i didn't need, i actually don't think there's anything left.

I use techtool pro and disk utility quite frequently as well about every month or so at least.

What OS build? Upgrade to latest (which is 10.3.7 as of 3/1/2005), as one of the 10.3 point upgrades had a nasty bug requiring a hack to link a cache for speed-up.

Remember to clean up your caches (Font caches and all).

Remove unnecessary fonts. Check the integrity of the remaining ones with a tool.

Check Startup Disk prefence pane and make sure the System Folder in which you want to boot up your PB is selected.

Open up Directory Access (In Applications/Utilities) and uncheck everything under Services tab, if you're using a standalone computer. If you're in a Windows infested work environment, or have multiple Macs, you might want to play with some of the offerings depending on your office config. Ask your admin.

Is Sharing ON? (System Preferences->Sharing)

These are from the top of my head at the moment. No, 4-5 minutes is not usual, and no, sleep-work-sleep-work has nothing to do with it. HTH.

FontAgent

Suitcase

FontDoctorX

Just to name a few. I don't know much as I've never used them. Here's a general purpose tool (cache cleaning, permissions restore/repair, optimization, etc) that I use frequently though:

Onyx

Good luck.
