Hey guys, I've never seen a problem like this before, but I just walked back in my house and to my computer (after being gone from it for about 4 hrs). It was plugged in so it wasn't asleep, but I have the screen saver set to go on after 10 min and to turn the screan (backlight?) off after 15 min. Anyway, when I got back, there was a red line 1 pixel wide down about 3/4 of the screan (vertically). I typed in my password and it remained stuck on the screan after the desktop came back up. I then, pissed off, finished eating my sandwitch... and it disappeared somewhere in the first min or so.. thuogh I wasn't paying enough attention.

Anyway, I'm typinng on it now and it works fine. Could this just be a wierd glitch? I have no reason to assume it's dammaged... as the powerbook has always been very carefully taken care of. I have never dropped it, spilled anything on it, etc... doesn't have a bump, dent, scratch. It was purchased this summer so the warranty is still good but the phone service is kaput. I plan on getting apple care this summer but I have no way to pay for it right now... Any ideas... what would you do?

May be worth a quick call to Apple support just to open a case and have it documented so if it returns its on record with both you and Apple. Its a strange problem and one you want to deal with sooner rather than later.

Am I going to get charged for the call though. I would guess that I shouldn't be; however, I don't know how apple runs. I know that it's not something that could be mistaken as software... so even though I don't have the phone warranty anymore it should still be covered.

EDIT: It comes back once and a while, but never while I'm actually using the PB. It only occurs when it comes out of sleep/boots up and only happens for a few seconds. Maybe I'll hold on to the powerbook until spring break and evaluate how badly I need to send it in. Besides, by that time, if it's messed up, I might just get a new rev powerbook
