Some of you may remember my previous woes, all stemming from the fact that I ordered a new 15" AL the first day they were announced in Paris. Had the LCD replaced THREE times before they fixed the white spot problem. Had the latch replaced once. Battery replaced once. And superdrive replaced once.
Now I'm into the paid portion of my Applecare coverage, and here's a story for ya:
I sent it back to Apple so that they could fix (a) the superdrive that had quit (again), (b) the latch that refused to latch securely (again), and (c) replace the screws at the bottom of the LCD that were missing since the last LCD repair (although they don't really seem to do anything...?)
Anyway I get an email from Apple the next day (funny since what if I was not checking my email, being that they had my computer...) but it said to call them regarding the repair. I call and they inform me that since there is cosmetic damage to the case (a small dent I put in the corner near the DC power input) that it would cost me $900-something to replace the superdrive since "obviously the computer has been dropped."
Not only was the computer never dropped, but that small dent was there the LAST time they replaced the superdrive and it wasn't a problem...
So there's no way I'm paying that much for a replacement drive (I can get an external one much cheaper), but I asked them to be sure the other problems were still taken care of -- the latch and the screws.
I get the computer back the next day and not only is the latch not fixed, the screws are still missing, two of the rubber feet are newly missing, and there's a small piece of what appears to be very brittle, thin, black material sticking out from right above F6. The material crumbled as soon as I touched it.
What was the material? Something I should be concerned about? And what do I do now?? My computer's in worse shape than when I sent it in, and they're refusing to fix anything because I put a small dent in the opposite corner of my computer.
Course of action??
Thanks!
