Hi all, I'm new here but have been reading the forums for a few months. I currently have a 1.5 15" pb with 1 gig of ram, superdrive, 128mb video ram and everything. It's only about 3 months old and I am in love with it. I use the laptop at work everyday, but at home I use a MDD dual G4 that is a little over 2 years old. I do interactive design and developement as a job, which is what I use my powerbook for. Anyways, on to my question... I love my G4 tower, but more and more I've been thinking about selling it. I could get some good money for it, and I would just use my powerbook full time. I would probably use the money to get a nice LCD and an external LaCie drive, since I have over 200 gigs of storage in my tower. I was wondering if anybody else who does similar work uses their powerbook as their only machine. I guess my only worry is overworking the powerbook, even though I've had no problems up until this point. My only worry is losing the expandability of the tower, but I don't even know if it will matter. Thanks in advance everybody!

Alot of people have only a PB in these forums and I think you've got a good thing going with your plan. You'll lose your Dually but 1.5GHz isn't exactly slow either. I think it's a good move, but I don't know how much horsepower your work requires so you might wanna ask someone who does what you do with a PB. I'm in design and absolutly love my only machine (specs below in sig).

Yea, I'm starting to notice that a bunch of people are doin' fine with just the powerbook. The 1.5 in the powerbook is about equal to the dual 867 in my tower, and the powerbook has more ram. I guess the only issue is hard drive space, which could be addressed by an external drive. My work usually revolves around flash, photoshop, php, asp, css, html, and sometime after effects and final cut. Thanks for the quick reply, I appreciate. I think I'm mainly looking for some reinforcement on what I've already decided, I just need a push over the hump.

I have been living now for 1,5 years a PowerBook "only" life and it works perfectly well. I love to have all my data and applications only on one place without the need to sync or whatever. My PB 1 GHz 12' is perfect for my job but I do not graphics design or video.

I converted to PB only awhile back. The main difference to me was the quality AND quantity of storage -- the largest 7200 rpm HD on the planet is 60 GB.
If you convert, be sure you have plenty of external space for both backups and storage/projects. I have an external 60 GB drive for backup by CCC, then I have a 200 GB external 7200 rpm drive for projects. [and if it's important, I have those files also backed up, either on another HD or via DVD].

I use my 1.33GHz 15" PB all day everyday as a direct replacement for my 1GHz G4 tower. As a designer I use photoshop, quark and illustrator all the time and have no issues at all.Storage is not a problem as I work directly off the main server via gigabit ethernet, but when I need to work from home I simply copy work to the PB and back again in the morning. Retrospect takes care of any backing up automatically on the server.
During the day the PB runs closed hooked up to a 22in CRT monitor. I can honestly say I never notice the difference between that and the old tower.
