And from another thread:

However the new thing, and this will no doubt turn some of you old schoolers on, is that they have ditched the silver shell, for some sort of ultra light, super hard, unscratchable carbon fiber black case, with red LED styling.

This will happen, and for the many doubters (and who can blame you), I will bring up this post when they are released.

However the real surprise will be for the next generation Powermacs, and that tale, boys and girls, I will save for another day.
I was just curious...

Gotta go order myself an iPod Shuffle... later ppl...

I don't want a PC looking notebook, but it does make sense for them to change the enclosure up a bit to make room for an eventual (hopefully inevitable?) G5 book. Here's hopin they don't make something ugly. Although I personally believe that Apple will keep the Alu the same color to match not only the display's, but the G5 towers and now Mac mini. Seems like Alu is here to stay and I for one am happy it is as long as they get it to stop warping.

What went wrong is that carbon fiber is a stupid thing to make a powerbook from. This will never happen. They might be black, but they won't be carbon. The stuff's too expensive, and while it's very light and stiff, it's very brittle. People would have cracks in their powerbook enclosures inside of a month. You'd have to weave it in with other materials to get the benefit of carbon's strength whill maintaining toughness. And that would make it too heavy.

Black would be cool though. But I vote for a black polycarbonate with a slick looking finish, like a black version of the iBook finish. That would be nice.
