Anyone got any clues why backlight stops working, and in fact disappears from the Display and Keyboard preferences (ie no checkbox in prefs). I have been following threads on Apple discussions, but no solutions. It isn't an Expose Fn clash. Some people have suggested logic board problems, others software. Help!

I had a problem with the keyboard not lighting up at all, course i did a upgrade install to panther on my old 17" pb. I formatted and did a fresh install, and that fixed my problems. All of them.

I did clean re-install Panther (not an upgrade install), but I hadn't reformatted. I don't really want to go there if I don't have to. Re-install didn't help.
