Just placed my order for 12in superdrive 80 gig. Also got a bunch of other stuff like: suffle+armband, icurve, iwork, app, .mac, mini-dvi to video adapter. Was waiting since early december for a speed bump with microsoft's special dividend burning a hole in my pocket, but no such luck. Thanks to people on this forum for all their info. WIll post more after it comes i'm sure

I hope for your sake that Apple doesn't announced speed-bumped Powerbooks in the next four weeks.

Both, i've been oogling the pb since july. Of course, it all started with the iPod purchase in 01/03. I've always hated macs before because our elementary and middle school both had the worst macs. But, i used to play games on my old Apple ][ with dual floppies

And, if will have a very short and explosive tantrum if apple has a bump within the next month of anything more than up to 1.5ghz.

Anybody heard of getting iLife '05 for only 20 bux upgrade? I called apple today and this is waht I was told.

I wouldn't worry about it. You'll be happy with your current machine for quite some time. I just bought my powerbook over the summer, and I know it would take a rev B G5 powerbook @ atleast 2ghz with a R9800 w/ 256mb to piss me off And well... we all know that aint happening!

The only thing is that i don't want it coming out in under 3 weeks, cause i guess i could wait that long. But, I've been waiting so long already, and every bit of speed helps me, as i've been destroying my Dell 1.6ghz(512mb) inspiron since I got it. It's so slow right now that it's rediculous and I just reformatted less than 6 months ago.

Congratulations on your purchase....We have severral powerbooks at my humble abode and we love them....as for upcoming announcements...it is inevitable that it will happen and what is today's top of the line will be tomorrow's bottom. It truly does come down to the fact that if it meets your needs, then it is perfect. I started with a 200mhz performa. I still have a 450mhz tower (Sawtooth?) that I thrived with for years....before the move to an 800mhz imac....The wife has been using a 12: powerbook (867mhz) for awhile and loves it...Now my son and I booth have 15"powerbooks. I looked at the 17 but it was just to much for my needs....I guess the moral here is simply buy as much as you can and live with the knowledge it will soo be outdated....functional but outdated!

Welcome to MacNN community....I trolled for years before the first post and have been truly educated by some of the fantastic people her. Wireless problems, network issues, etc...I have QUICKLY found the solutions here and I am thankful. I have even used the marketplace successfully.... Again...welcome aboard.....

Don't sweat it that much. I bought my Rev B in late Jan of last year ('04) and the Rev C came out in April. At first I was smacking my head with frustration, and I had the urge to sell my machine and pick up the Rev C but I'm glad I didn't. My machine suits me very well and my only gripe is the 32MB of VRAM.....oh well. Point is don't worry bout the updates all too much, your better off using your machine to its full potential, and when it starts slowing down is when you should keep your eye out for new updates for an upgrade. I think I'm holding for one more update after this one, and if it's a G5 then I'll wait one more after that for the Rev B.
NOW YOU SEE ME! 2.4 MBP and 2.0 MBP (running ubuntu)

I too am going to hold out for the G5 rev B. This 1.5ghz is as fast as I need for right now. I don't do any heavy video editing or anything like that. But comming from a PC I love the ability to run tons of programs at one time with little to no slowdown. OSX just seems to manage memory so much better than my PC did (even with 1gb of ram on the PC). I love my powerbook, and my dad already plans to be the new owner when I upgrade (as he did partially pay for this one).
