Have to bet it's a typo, unless Apple has some magic up there sleeves as it says iBook G5 as well.

The one odd thing is the production quantity quoted in the article. '30k-50k/month' for the G5 PowerBooks. That's 90,000-150,000 for the quarter. Not a lot.
According to this week's financial report Apple shipped 152,000 PowerBooks last quarter, down 29% year over year. So even 152,000 was already a bit disappointing.
With even less 'G5' PowerBooks to be built, it seems that Apple is not very confident about this new product.
This either means it was a typo and we are still talking G4 PowerBooks where Apple (rightly) expects sales figures to further decline as everyone is waiting for the G5. Or, if it is indeed a new G5 PowerBook, this would indicate that it will be a 'disappointing' release and Apple is not expecting a rush of buyers.
Odd...

The fact alone that there is reference to iBook G5, makes me believe that this is a typo. Nothing to see here.

The iMac too is a consumer product and it has already a G5. It is not there the problem. The problem is that the Powerbooks are still running G4s, while the Power Macs took G5s one year and a half ago. For this reason alone it is highly unlikely that the "leak" has any truth in it.

Seems plausible.
I think these are accurate. Why these companies have no contractual obligations to keep these trade secrets, I have no idea. Perhaps Taiwanese law doesn't allow Apple a legal presence for recourse. I'd be pissed, if I were upper management at Apple.
Well, that means version 2 (please don't say rev. b-- just think about it for a second...) of the PowerBook G5 will be oh, around Q4, ready for the school season. That's when I'll upgrade-- maybe version 3, Q2 2006. Holy crap. 2006.

mmmm G5 powerbook... or G5 iBook... that would be awesome too. I can see them launching both at around the same time, especially if they dropped the 12" powerbook or made it a 13" wide screan... one can only hope!

When they refer to the G5 perhaps Apple has just called the faster freescale G4 (with the faster FSB) a 'G5'. I could see that happening.
Besides those newer freescale chips are pretty good (at least on paper) and are far cooler and can be put in the enclosure of the PB.

I have been waiting to buy a powerbook for over a month and a half. Since MWSF was coming up, I decided to wait. I have been reading about new programs and products that mac came out with, but I haven't seen any revisions to the powerbooks. Has there been an update and I'm blind in not seeing it or am I correct in my assertion that mac hasn't yet updated the powerbook line?

Right. And I would like to add the following. We have here a site and some contractors revealing sensitive information concerning "forthcoming" Apple products. And Apple does not take any action against this, it seems they don't even bother at all. I hope this does tells something.
