The Tibook is a 1 ghz Superdrive. Now 2 years and 3 months old. No Applecare, which I may now regret....

On wakeup, the screen is somewhat pink. Sometimes the pinkish tinge is more noticeable at the bottom of the screen. It fades away in 10 seconds or and the screen is perfectly fine.

Backlight aging? Display connector? LCD going bad? Inverter board?

I'm inclined to think backlight (this machine runs 12+ hours/day and has since I got it. The behavior as the pink fades away seems very consistent with a backlight "warming up".

Anyone ever replace a backlight in a tibook? Is there even a source for the part(s)?

Anyone else chime in on this? The options are:

1. Sell the Tibook.
2. Get an external monitor and use the built in screen as little as possible.
3. Replace the LCD.

Best price I've found on this is at

DTTService.

Anyone know anything about these guys?

Just to close this thread, and possibly help someone else out:

I got the CCL (cold cathode lamp; the "lightbulb" in the display) replaced by Wegener Media. The Tibook is good as new! Bright, sharp screen, arguably looks better than the day I bought it since this CCL may be brighter than the original one.

It was about $575 with shipping.

I have experienced this on a Ti PB. I still use the machine as a file server. The pink goes away as the bulb warms up. When cold the entire screen is nearly 100% PINK!!!

I just can't justify getting the LCD replaced on a 3 year old computer as for that money I am in a brand new iBook price range.

my 0.02.............

Can't argue with the economics, but I --like-- the Tibook, better than the Albooks. The backup computer that I used for a week while the Ti was in for repair was a "guest" account on my daughter's 12" iBook....I just can't go to a 12" screen after the 15".

Besides, the Ti has a 7200 rpm drive that I put in, and other upgrades, so I am keeping this thing until the mythical G5 laptop ships.

3. Replace the LCD.

Have someone replace the flourescent bulbs...the screen is fine the bulbs are causing the pink.
