i have a Powerbook G4(DVI) of around 1 year and a 45w new charger(new because the other one got stolen).
Anyway the problem is, since of lately, i plug everything, and the charger light stays amber, if i take out the battery it turns green, but the PB doesn't start, if i fiddle with the plug in the PB same stuff, so i tried measuring it with a multimeter and the voltage is very low, the thing is, if i make contact between the lower interior ring and the outer shielding the leds turns green, and with the multimeter i can then measure what i believe to be the correct voltage, around 22/23volts (of a rated 24v on the charger); But here comes the weird part, if with a screwdriver i short the lower interior ring with the top 1, the light turns red, or it gives out a light spark, and then , i plug it on the PB and it charges beautifully..of course it doesn't last...
To make matters worse, the plug inside the PB seems a little loose, and i wonder if it has anything to do with it..Since i don't have an Apple store nearby or any user with a PB around, there's not alot i can try..
What do you guys think? Has it happened to anyone, because i don't know if it's the PB or the charger...

Unless it's a 12" Powerbook, I'm quite sure you need a 60 watt minimum power supply. The Apple Powerbook supplies are rated 65W.

1. Stop monkeying with the adapter, lest you short it out!

2. Check whether your PowerBook requires the 65W adapter. Early TiBooks did not, but the last version did, and I think that's the one you have (867MHz/1GHz model). If you use the 45W adapter on a PowerBook that needs the 65W version, you can still operate it, but you cannot charge and use the computer at the same time. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=88231 lists which models use which adapter.

3. Your problem sounds more like a Power Management Unit thing. Try resetting the PMU. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=14449 tells you how to do this.

the 45w adapter always worked fine, why shouldn't it work now?
i have reset the PMU, same thing, if the charger is connected to the PB i just get the amber light; i have now finished disassembling the PB power connector, it's a very small piece, i tried fiddling with it, but with no success, even with it just connected outside the PB i only get the amber light, does anyone know how to check it for damage? the thing just won't charge... the thing that puzzles me is that if i touch the lower inner ring of the connector with the outer shielding it lights up the green light, and with the multimeter i can see it outputs the correct voltage... help =/
