Which one would you rather have. I just walked into a really good deal on a Powerbook 12.1" 867. My only dilemma is whether or not it is better to have the new iBook. The new iBook has a faster processor and comes with the airport extreme card. The computer will mainly be used for the internet, some web page building, watching dvd's on an TV. The Powerbook does have the meatl casing, butother than that, I don't know much about the difference between the two.
The ibook would cost about the same as the powerbook. Any opinions on this dilemma?

I would go with the ibook. Even though the PB has the metal case, the ibook is known for being more structurally durable.

I would go for the new iBook. For one thing it is new so that is a plus. Also, the iBook has 256MB RAM on the board. If you add a 512MB module it will give you 768MB instead of 640MB RAM like on the PowerBook. Both model have the same VRAM but I don't know the differences in the chip sets. The iBook has USB 2.0 where the PowerBook has USB 1.1. With the new iBook the battery will be new. On the PowerBook it might last a year or it might last a month. Also, APX on the iBook will save you a few bucks if the PowerBook doesn't have one. Here are a couple links to specs on the two laptops:

another vote for the iBook. because it's new you get a 1 year warranty, should problems arise. the only reason i might go with the PB is if it had a superdrive for DVD burning.

I'd say iBook, too, since you're going to have to spend another $80 for an airport card (assuming you need one) if you get the Powerbook, making it more expensive. The iBook will also be more durable and have better airport range and battery life.
If you buy applecare (which I highly recommend), it'll be about $50 more expensive on the PB. If the PB already has applecare, though, I'd probably go for it, as that's going to save you >$200 over buying it for the iBook.
The only real advantages of that model PB are the better keyboard and the ability to connect to a DVI monitor. (Unless the PB hard drive is bigger -- I can't recall how big the HD is on that model.) So if those aren't important to you, all things being equal, I'd get the iBook.
