I don't post on here ever, but I browse these forums every day. Are there many people like me? Probably, lol.....anyway, I have an 11-month old Powerbook G4 12", 867/640/40, and I am at the end of my rope. The case was a little bent as soon as I took it out of the box, and it wouldn't go to sleep when I shut the lid. I sent it in 3 times last year before they confirmed there was a problem (regarding the sleeping, the warped case was a 'cosmetic' issue and not covered under applecare). they replaced the logicboard in april/may on its 4th trip into the repair center. It worked fine all for six months, then a month ago the hard drive gave out, and it was back at apple for another week and a half, getting ANOTHER logic board, new IDE cables, and a new (admittedly 60 gb, an upgrade from my original 40) hard drive. I got it back in the mail last week, only to find upon opening that the Superdrive is no longer functioning. GAAAAAA!!!!! It's scheduled to get sent back in tomorrow, and I plan on spending some quality time on the phone with Apple Customer Relations. I'm not sure what my options are, but at this point I don't even care if they send the computer back. It has been a hassle ever since I bought it. The problem is, I just want to sell the stupid thing, but I'm sure it's value is quite low (who would want to buy a computer that's gone through 2 logic boards, a hard drive, and an optical drive in 1 year???......and I wouldn't feel right not disclosing this info to a potential buyer) and I am considering asking for just a credit towards a new Powerbook or ibook. Anyone else (who has maybe dealt with their customer relations before) know what I can expect? I hate this situation, and just wish I could have a different computer, but I understand why Apple wouldn't be too eager to just send me a replacement. Any advice or input would be appreciated, thanks again

Insist on a new one. If you politely but firmly complain enough, they'll do it, especially since you DID give them ample opportunity to make things right already.

tooki-
thanks for the advice. i am not an overly confrontational person, so it will be difficult for me to insist on it, but this could be something enough for me to get worked up about. maybe my timing isn't so bad either, eh? if updates are just around the corner, maybe they won't be as reluctant to send me a new one. just a thought.

just an update......finally got through to apple customer service this evening, and as soon as i send in my 867/256/60/SD powerbook, they are sending me a brand spankin' new (NOT refurbished) 1.33/256/60/SD to replace it. although it's been quite a hassle, i am incredibly happy and impressed with apple customer service. i think this means i have to shut my mouth and not say anything bad about the company for a while, lol.......only downside is that my 512 mb ram stick won't work in the new one. oh well, it's a free $1800 computer!!! time to upgrade to 1.25 gb anyway

you are fortunate to get it in before the warranty expired! Eleven months is cutting it very close.

When you get your new PB, make sure to get AppleCare to extend the warranty another 2 years. You'll be thankful you did.
