Hi,
Is there any way to use a PC Card with the current iBooks? Is there a PC Card to USB adaptor or anything like that?

Cheers.

The PC Card interface is a superset of the Compact Flash interface-or more accurately the CF interface is a subset of the PCMCIA interface. That's a LOT of data and control. While it's possible to envision a PCMCIA card-to-USB or to-firewire, I've never heard of anything like that.

Ben - this is what I'm hoping to use with the iBook.

I take it that I'm not able to, huh?

Edit - I just had a look atdeveloper.apple.com, which said:

The Bluetooth technology supports the following profiles:
dial-up networking (DUN) — enables a mobile phone to act as a modem

does this mean that I can use a mobile w/ BT to connect to the net on a BT-enabled iBook, forgoing the use of a PC card?

This Vodaphone modem seems like a Compact Flash card. They provide a PCMCIA->Compact Flash adaptor, in case your computer doesn't have a CF slot. You should try the Vodafone device with a USB2 CF reader.

When I was living in Japan I had an adapter that I could use with PC cards and my ibook, I used a wireless connection all the time with it. They were made by a company called Suntac. http://www.sun-denshi.co.jp/scc/products/products1.htm I used the "Slipper U" which at that time wasn't compatible with OSX but the newer products are for the most part. I think that I paid about $40 USD. This was 3 years ago. It worked well, and looked funny. It may be just what you are looking for.

Wow, superd, that's exactly what I was looking for.
I think you meant to say the Slipper X though, right?
The Slipper X page says "PCƒJ[ƒh-USB•ÏŠ·ƒAƒ_ƒvƒ^‚Å‚·B" (in English, PC Card to USB Conversion Adaptor).
Edit: The Slipper U's page says the same. Obviously there's more than one of these to choose from.

The cost's given as 9,800 Yen, which, despite being rather expensive ($95 USD), is good value considering I would be using it for the long term.

Brilliant. Thank you so much.

Superd, where in Japan did you pick your adaptor up?

Thanks again for your help, I really appreciate it.
