Hello fine folks,

i bought my PB 17 last year on January 27th and I was thinking of buying Apple Care plan in two or three days. Now if i understand properly, my PB will have an extended guarantee for another two years.

What about after those two years? Can you buy another Apple Care?

I heard some horrible stories regarding screens, like it costs a huge amount of money, sometimes more than a new computer.

Cheers for the answers,

Regards

Hi, I have a 17" PowerBook with AppleCare, it is on repair actually due to a logic/mother board failure, without AppleCare that is really expensive to repair, but anyway, I consider AppleCare being really expensive, of course you feel like AppleCare being a must, could be sure, as you say a display failure is going to be much expensive that AppleCare, but I wonder why AppleCare for PowerBooks are such an expensive option.

We are talking about AppleCare on this topic, feel free to read it

Apple Care in Europe... what!?

Although I don't have a 17", I do have the 15" PB. I got the Applecare warranty when I purchased the PB and have found I to be an excellent investment.

I recently had my Airport express breakdown, although it was still on the original 1yr warrany, the Macstore said that it would have been covered by the extended warranty if it failed during the 3 yrs.

I also had the PB battery replaced under the Applecare warranty. For the PB I'm at 15 months and the battery seemed to only have about half the original capacity. I took it to the Apple Store and they didn't even blink and gave me a replacement "new" battery. Without the warranty I would be in for at least $125-$150 USD. As I still have 21 months left on the warranty. If this battery gets to half capacity before then, you know I will be taking it back.

If you carry the laptop around everywhere like I do, I think that the cost of the warranty is worth the peace of mind.

Cheers,

MKJ
