I'm thinking of upgrading my TiBook 1 GHz (Nov 2002) while waiting for the next major release of the Powerbook line
-- most perople expect it for the (late) summer. Considering up to two upgrade options, I have two questions:
Does a RAM upgrade from 1 to 2 GB on a have an effect in performance?
Do you recommend upgrading the original 60 GB Fujitsu 4200 rpm drive to a brand new 5400 80 GB model (which model?) to gain some transfer speed? Or could it be risky (heat etc.) to change the original drive into a faster one?
Thanks very much for some hints, advices or experiences!

Wait as long as you can. Rumored Dual-Core G4 PBs are maybe coming any day/week now.
Yes. Upping the RAM from 1GB to 2GB will make a difference, especially if you use multiple apps at a time.
Upping the HD will give you a small boost, but I wouldn't if you don't need the space. It can be a pain.

I have that same machine, and I think both the memory upgrade and the hard drive upgrade would be a complete waste of money. Well, the memory upgrade would be nice for certain apps, but it would cost a lot of money.
Just wait and buy a new machine. The TiBook still gets a fair amount of money on eBhey. And you can stick your 2 GB in the new laptop. (TiBook memory is incompatible with newer PowerBooks.)

I didn't think the Ti would take more than 1gig of ram?
I also know from experience that upgrading the hard drive is very easy on a TiBook.
I replaced the stock drive on mine with a 5400rpm Seagate and it took 5 minutes maybe.
It seems significantly faster to me.

You already have the max RAM. Your TiBook uses PC133 SDRAM, not the PC2700 DDR that newer ones use. The largest sized PC133 module you can get is 512 MB, so that's what you're stuck with, unfortunately.
Upgrading the hard drive to a faster one will help a lot. There are plenty of 5400 RPM drives in 60, 80 and 100 GB capacities, as well as a 7200 RPM 60 GB laptop drive.

Oh yeah, forgot about that. The TiBook is maxed out at 1 GB.

Thanks for all your answers. I'll wait for the rumored PM update. If it's what they all expect (no major update, just little bumps and improvements) then I'll upgrade my harddisk to a faster one. The memory question was silly -- I forgot that I reached the max yet ;-)
If it's a major upgrade (dual-core CPU or other) then I'll order a new one.
Thanks again and EOT.

I think with the new 1GB modules, you can put 2 in the TI (total of 2GB)
I have also upgraded to a travelstar 5400RPM 80GB drive, and it is faster! A quick and easy upgrade as well!

No, read the above posts. PC133 RAM (what the Titanium PowerBook uses) maxes out at 512 MB.
