Does installing RAM yourself void your warranty?

Nothing voids the warranty in its entirety.

Of you damage something while doing an upgrade, that damage may not be covered under warranty, but everything unrelated remains under warranty.

(E.g. if you break a RAM slot, that would not be covered, but if later on the DVD drive broke, they'd still have to fix it.)
