I bought my laptop on January 15th. I realize I'm out of the 14 day exchange period, but have you guys had success getting anything from them to "sooth" the pain of having a new version come out?

Good ol' social engineering should work. The trick is to befriend a telephone rep. You'd be surprised what one of those guys will do if you're friendly. (I'm one of those phone guys. Not for Apple, but the whole kindness and friendliness thing has got to span the whole telephone support industry. )

So here's my suggestion: call on some other issue, such as asking about processor scaling or monitor brightness or something. Who knows. Maybe you have some other question that needs answering. But anyway, if you get someone who is friendly and social, just turn chatty and talk about how cool the new powerbooks are and how bummed you are that you missed the exchange period by so little time. Then ask him if he knows anything you can do. If he says no, try again the next day with someone else.

Oh, that's got to hurt. Let me guess, you waited until after the Expo, there weren't any new Powerbooks, so you went ahead and ordered one. And now...

I hope you get a new one. Good luck.

My friend is in the same boat. Does Apple have an official policy on this anywhere? Anyone have any anectdotal advice? One of the other options she's considering is the price protection plan on her credit card.

Apple does have a 30 day return policy, I believe, for things that were not custom ordered. You could always try and use that as leverage.

Pretty sure it's 10% restocking fee regardless.

You're basically down for the count unless by some miracle a nice phone rep. would do a return/rebuy for free. Definitely sucks, but someone is without a doubt ALWAYS gonna buy the day before updates...just hasta happen

Not 30 days but 14 plus a 10% open box fee
Apple

Other then trying to convince a support staff at apple, just enjoy the PB. 2 weeks or 2 months, apple would have eventually released a faster unit, and of course this does not make yours any slower. It should suffice for what you bought for.

Enjoy

Great idea!

I stated in my pre-PB purchase thread that I didn't care if they came out with speedbumped versions after I purchased it, but they had to go ahead and add bluetooth 2.0, sudden motion sensor (the trackpad I don't care about because I use sidetrack).

All in all, I don't really care that much that they came out with a speed bumped version, but if I can maybe get something from them as like a consolation price, I'll be even happier. Otherwise, I'm perfectly fine with my PB

I can get a $200 refund since I bought 2 weeks ago Thursday. So in total that is $400 off the retail price of Rev C (I got the education discount too)

I want to know that too. I'm out of the 14 days, but my Amex has a 60 day price protection thing that I can use.

I'm not entirely certain that will work since apple doesn't have a new price listed for your PB. Now, if you purchased from a store that has a revised price you might be in luck

If you bought on or after 1/20 then you are eligible.

Call (800) 676-2775 and hit 1,2,3,2 (i think)

Can you just indicate what section this was in and I'll dig for it?

The "Great Deals" section now has Sales, Promos and Rebates rather than Refurbs.
