I was wondering if the Sudden Motion Sensor is part of the hard drive itself or is it part of the Powerbook?

If I took out the internal drive and stuck in a 3rd party 7200 RPM hard drive, would I still have the SMS capabilities with the 3rd party drive?

This system is unique to the PowerBook itself -- it's built in to the motherboard." As a result, Apple isn't dependent on any specific hard disk drive manufacturer, [David] Russell told MacCentral.
