Hi.

First of all I'll explain my premiise, which could be entirely wrong in which case the rest of this post is moot Apologies if this is the case.

I have two screens, the built in LCD on my Powerbook and an extermal monitor.. When using them in Mirroring mode I was under the impression that it still took more VRAM to drive the displays than to drive just one of the screens. I could, however, be wrong on this.

To improve performance when playing games, specifically WoW , I'd like to put the built-in LCD to sleep whenever I'm playing so that all available VRAM is used for the external monitor. Energy Saver setting for putting it to sleep after a set time won't work since I'm still interacting with the computer.

Is this possible and if so would it actually bring any advantages? I've done a few searches and not found any suggestions.

Cheers,
Neil

I think your only choice is to hook up an external keyboard, put the powerbook to sleep (with ext. display attached), then press a key on the keyboard to wake up the powerbook. You'll be running in clamshell mode and, if I'm not mistaken, all your VRAM will be allocated to the external monitor.

I tried this on my iBook via the hack but unfortuantely it only halfway worked. I could my main desktop on my external monitor. I could my iBook to run in clamshell mode. But when I checked System Profiler, for some reason the internal LCD was still getting 16mb of VRAM even though it was effectively disabled. This almost makes me want to get a PowerBook.

Ah ace that works fine. Open up the powerbook after it's started "clamshell mode" and all VRAM is indeed allocated to the external monitor. Cheers.
