I'd like to know if browsing the internet with the 12" Powerbook is comfortable or cramped. I'm considering getting one but this is my only concern, I love the portability of the 12" and want to be sure I'll be happy with the size of the display. I would be taking it to Starbucks, Borders etc so I need something that is pretty portable.

From what I've seen it works fine. Of course tabbed browsing helps a ton. And exposé does too.

It's more cramped for programs like photoshop that have lots of little windows (tools, layers, etc..)

What resolution screen are you accustomed to surfing with now? It's a 1024 x 768 screen so won't feel any more "cramped" than a standard 15" monitor as far as that goes only that everything will looks smaller.

I do it all the time, and although I use a 17" external display at my desk, my eyes quickly readjust. Expose helps. Hint: set the minimum font size to 16 or even 18 point, and use the ?-+ command frequently to avoid eyestrain with tiny text.

I use it all the time for surfing. Expose and Sidetrack will help you get through quite nicely. I also second for setting the minimum font size to a bigger number but not that big, I set my settings to 12-14 depending on how far I'm holding my book from me. Tabbed browsing also makes using a 12" screen not noticable.

I find it perfectly comfortable. I'm posting this from my 12" Powerbook, and it's basically the only computer I use at this point.

Great size for travelling... and for easy computer work.. When you work with a lot of windows.. you might want to consider an external display.

Why not try it yourself? Download Free Ruler, set a browser window to 1024x768 (or a tad smaller to account for the menu bar) and see if it works for you.

I've got a 1600x1200 display both at home and at work but I still find the 12" display to be fine for my on-the-go browsing needs.

I think as long as you make use of tabbed browsing, it's perfectly fine. Come to think of it, even without tabs, Expose makes it very easy. I find browsing on my PB's 12" screen no different than browsing on my 17" external LCD.
