Hey all,

I got on that outpost.com deal for the 1GB sticks awhile ago. I've been running smoothly with ~2 gigs of memory for a couple months now.. but just yesterday i noticed that it was only detecting that I have 1 gig of memory!! I tried testing with just one module and both sticks seemed to be ok. I swapped the slots they are in and OS X still only reports 1 gb...

What's wrong here? It seems to see the single 1 gb stick separately, but not together!

AHhhhh !!!

Any help is appreciated!

Thanks,

kash

p.s. I also tried pram reset about 4 times with no succes... thanks.

-------------------

Ok, it seems like one 1GB module WAS bad... when i put it in alone, all it would do is beep 3 times and then the sleep light would flash on and off.

So, I tried my original 256 mb chip + working 1gb... And it seems like OS X only sees the chip that's plugged into the outer-most slot.......
Do I have a problem with my powerbook as well?

This is starting to be a known problem with the 15" Powerbooks. I had the same issue and Apple replaced my logic board. If you search Apple Discussions a lot of users are having the same problem and calling for Apple to go public with a recall/repair program. It usually is the "lower" dimm slot that goes bad.

In case anyone doesn't feel like searching:

I had Applecare and it went out for repair Monday evening from Michigan, and was sent to Houston for repair. I had it back Thursday morning. I was impressed with the service and still love my Powerbook. I just felt a little disappointed. I thought Asus(I think that is the OEM) was known for their quality control. I've had 3 solid PC boards from them in the past, but oh well.
